Attorney General Announces Inquiry into President's Adversaries and Epstein Links
On Friday, the Attorney General assigned Jay Clayton to lead an probe into opponents of Donald Trump and their connections with the late financier. This move came shortly after Trump instructed her to launch the probe.
In a statement, the Attorney General highlighted Jay Clayton as “one of the most capable and trusted prosecutors in the country”. The official added, “This case will be addressed with speed and honesty to ensure public transparency.”
This development appears to contradict a recent memorandum from federal authorities which declared that documents related to Epstein lacked grounds for additional investigations. According to the memo, authorities “found no proof justifying probes into uncharged individuals”
The President Calls for Scrutiny of Political Opponents in the Epstein Matter
The announcement comes as growing pressure from the president on congressional Republicans to resist the public disclosure of files concerning Epstein before an upcoming House vote in the coming days. Several lawmakers are expected to support the disclosure.
Recently released emails from Jeffrey Epstein have brought attention to Trump’s previous connections with the sex trafficker, including information that his knowledge of Epstein’s behavior exceeded prior admissions.
That same day, Trump declared he would direct the DOJ to examine Epstein’s ties with Democrats, specifically naming prominent individuals such as Clinton, Summers, and Hoffman. Paradoxically, he also described the “Epstein situation” as a “scam”.
