Thomas Tuchel Criticizes Home Crowd Support Following Dominant Wales Victory.
The England head coach shared his disappointment that the Three Lions team did not receive greater encouragement from the home spectators during their impressive friendly win against Wales on Thursday evening.
The manager was happy to see his squad maintain their strong performance, with finishes from Rogers, Watkins, and Bukayo Saka inside the first 20 minutes effectively ending the contest. However, he was displeased with the atmosphere at the iconic venue.
“We had limited training days to get ready against a organized team and we performed excellently,” the coach remarked. “It could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the additional ones. The stadium was silent. There was no support from the crowd. Our team gave their all to win.”
“What more can you provide in 20 minutes? We didn’t let them get away. When you only hear just the Welsh supporters for half an hour, it’s sad because the squad earned more support today.”
“I maintain this statement. There’s nothing more than leading three goals up in a derby. I hoped for a little more backing in periods where it gets difficult.”
“In the second half, to get behind us, there was excessive support for Wales. It could have helped us to refocus, but that’s football and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Apart from risking a fight with fans, Tuchel also raised eyebrows by excluding Jude Bellingham and Foden from his squad. However the move was validated by Morgan Rogers excelling in the attacking midfield role and scoring his first international goal.
“That’s his style,” Tuchel noted. “He is a No 10 and he is competing for his place.”
Wales Manager Hopes for Improvement from Loss
Craig Bellamy expressed hope that Wales, who host a strong Belgian side in a important World Cup qualifier on Monday, improve after their awful performance in the opening period.
“That’s the reason I wanted this friendly,” the manager stated. “I wanted to assess our current level. What are our ambitions? What is our identity? Today fills me with drive.”
Fitness Worry for Watkins
Watkins was taken off at half-time after hitting a post and will be a doubt when England play their next opponents in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on next week.
